Elias Theodorou, a former UFC fighter, passed away at the age of 34 from cancer.

Elias Theodorou, a former mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter who competed professionally, passed away on Sunday, September 11 at a early age. It was announced that he passed away from liver cancer, on Monday via his official Twitter account by his family. He had reached the age of 34 when he passed away.

Elias Family stated that, “Elias “The Spartan” Theodorou answered his final bell yesterday, September 11th, 2022. He passed peacefully at home with his family and loved ones in his corner after a hard-fought fight with colon cancer that metastasized”.

UFC expressed on his death that, “Elias Theodorou made an impact in his 34 years, one that won’t be forgotten”. Jeff Novitzky tweeted that, “”RIP Elias Theodorou. A great person and a HUGE voice for the more fair and equitable treatment of marijuana use in MMA and sport”.

Elias Michael Theodorou was a Canadian middleweight MMA fighter who was first introduced to MMA in 2009 when he was a first-year college student at Humber College. He made his pro debut in June 2011. In 2013, he was ranked 13th in the middleweight division and won The Ultimate Fighter Nations: Canada vs Australia. He signed his UFC contract in April 2014.

Theodorou retired from the UFC in 2019, having finished his career with a record of 16-3 overall wins and an 8-3 record on the sport’s premier league. His last fight took place on December 18, 2021 at Colorado Combat Club 10 versus Bryan Baker. He emerged victorious with a unanimous decision over his opponent.

Elias was well-known for his role as an advocate for for the right to use of medical marijuana as an athlete, and he was the one who led the successful effort to secure this privilege. In January of 2020 in the continent of North America, he was granted a “therapeutic use exemption” for marijuana.
